Below is a brief bio of Dr. Deane Waldman:

One thing is certain: you either need health care now or will need it some time in the future. The healthcare system we have doesn’t work and needs to be fixed. Dr. Deane has a totally different approach on how to cure our very sick healthcare system.

Why should you listen to him?

Background facts on the author include schooling and training at: Yale, Chicago Medical School, Mayo Clinic, Northwestern, Harvard and Anderson Management Schools. Dr. Deane has authored over 140 academic pub- lications and more than 350 lay articles and blogs on both the practice of medicine and on healthcare strategy. He has been Chief of Section at San Diego Children’s Hospital, University of Chicago, and University of New Mexico, as well as a practicing pediatric cardiologist for over 35 years.

Dr. Deane is former Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Pathology and Decision Science at the University of New Mexico. He now serves on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange and is Adjunct Scholar (for Healthcare) for the Rio Grande Foundation public policy think tank.

Dr. Deane’s past—both professional and personal—has exposed him to every aspect of health care: practicing medicine, administration, research, teaching, as well as being a critically ill patient himself. Combining those experiences with his MBA knowledge along with his research in management and business, he shares insights into the root causes of why the healthcare system continues to fail patients, nurses, doctors and our country. Most important, he explains what you can do about it.

When asked how he figured out what to do about our sick healthcare system, Dr. Deane answered, “On my bike, of course.” He loves bicycle racing. On long training rides, as his mind wanders, he says that he solves professional problems and releases emotional tension. His family calls it “cyclic therapy.” He and his wife of 46 years reside in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico).
